Kay Takes Three World Titles At Masters Meet

WOLLONGONG athlete Marie Kay won three world titles and set a new world record at the world masters athletics championships at Linz, Austria, last month.
Kay took out the W45 (women's 45 years age category) long jump, pentathlon and 400m.In the 400m she set a new world record of 59.16sec."It was awesome ... these results far exceeded my expectations," Kay said."I went there to win the pentathlon and 400m. The long jump title and world record are a bonus."I was the only Australian woman there, and to come home with three titles was fantastic," she added.Kay also competed at the United States national championships at Boston, winning the 200m, 400m and hurdles in her age group.A fitness instructor and personal trainer at Beaton Park Leisure Centre, Kay started her career in athletics at 35 and works hard for her success, training six times a week.She was named masters athlete of the year at the 2005 NSW Sports Federation sports awards dinner at the Sydney SuperDome in February.Kay won two gold and three silver medals in the women's 45 year age category at the world masters championships at San Sebastian, Spain, last year.
